Obedience to Jesus’ Words

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

Today’s Devotional

In Luke 6:46, Jesus confronts the inconsistency between people’s words and actions. He questions why some call Him “Lord” but don’t follow His teachings. This verse serves as a reminder that true faith in Jesus involves not only professing Him as Lord but also obeying His commands.

Jesus’ question is an invitation for self-examination, to assess whether our lives genuinely align with His teachings. It is essential to not just be hearers of the Word but doers as well (James 1:22). By living out Jesus’ teachings, we demonstrate our love for Him and our commitment to His lordship in our lives.

Time to reflect

As you reflect on Luke 6:46 and Jesus’ call to obedience, consider the following questions:

  • In what areas of your life do you struggle to put Jesus’ teachings into practice?
  • How can you work on aligning your actions with your profession of faith in Christ?
  • What steps can you take to grow in obedience to Jesus’ commands and deepen your relationship with Him?

Prayer Of The Day

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your life and teachings that show us how to live in obedience to the Father. We recognize that true faith in You involves not only professing You as Lord but also obeying Your commands. Forgive us for the times we have fallen short in putting Your teachings into practice.

Help us to grow in our obedience to Your commands and to align our actions with our profession of faith in You. Strengthen us to live out Your teachings and to be doers of the Word, demonstrating our love for You and our commitment to Your lordship in our lives.

In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Strengthening Faith

  1. Reflect on your life and identify areas where you struggle to put Jesus’ teachings into practice.
  2. Pray for God’s guidance and strength to align your actions with your profession of faith in Christ.
  3. Seek out opportunities to grow in obedience to Jesus’ commands, such as studying Scripture, joining a Bible study or accountability group, and intentionally practicing His teachings in your daily life.

Today Wisdom

Jesus’ question in Luke 6:46 reminds us of the importance of aligning our actions with our profession of faith in Him. As we grow in obedience to His commands, we deepen our relationship with Him and demonstrate our love and commitment to His lordship in our lives.
