Trusting God’s Timing

“They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.””
2 Peter 3:4 (NIV)

Today’s Devotional

In 2 Peter 3:4, the apostle Peter warns us about those who scoff at the promise of Jesus’ return. These skeptics point out that life has continued as it always has and question the validity of Jesus’ promise to return. However, Peter reminds us that God’s timing is not like our own, and His apparent delay is actually an expression of His patience, giving more people the opportunity to come to repentance and faith in Jesus.

As believers, it can be challenging to wait for Jesus’ return, especially as we face trials and difficulties in this world. However, we must trust in God’s perfect timing and recognize that His plans and purposes are much greater than our own. We should also take comfort in the knowledge that His promises are sure and will ultimately be fulfilled, even if we don’t understand His timing.

Time to reflect

In light of 2 Peter 3:4, consider the following points:

  • Be aware of the skeptics who mock the promise of Jesus’ return, and do not be swayed by their doubts.
  • Trust in God’s perfect timing, even when it seems like His promises are taking longer than we would like.
  • Understand that God’s apparent delay in fulfilling His promises is actually an expression of His patience and mercy, allowing more people to come to repentance.
  • Encourage one another with the hope of Jesus’ return and the fulfillment of His promises.
  • Remain faithful and diligent in your walk with the Lord, even as you wait for His return.

Prayer Of The Day

Lord, we thank You for Your promises and the hope we have in Jesus’ return. Help us to trust in Your perfect timing, even when it seems like Your promises are delayed. Keep us from doubting or becoming discouraged by the skepticism of others. Strengthen our faith and help us to remain faithful and diligent in our walk with You, even as we wait for the fulfillment of Your promises. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Strengthening Faith

To apply the truths from 2 Peter 3:4, take these action steps:

  1. Reflect on times when you have been tempted to doubt God’s promises or timing, and remind yourself of His faithfulness.
  2. Pray for those who are skeptical or mocking the promise of Jesus’ return, asking God to open their hearts to the truth.
  3. Encourage fellow believers with the hope of Jesus’ return and the assurance of God’s promises.
  4. Seek opportunities to share the gospel with others, recognizing that God’s patience allows more people to come to repentance.
  5. Cultivate a daily relationship with God through prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with other believers.

Today Wisdom

God’s timing may not always align with our expectations, but His promises are sure and will ultimately be fulfilled. As we wait for Jesus’ return, let us trust in His perfect timing and remain faithful in our walk with Him, knowing that His apparent delay is an expression of His patience and mercy for all people.
