Today’s Devotional

Genesis 6:1 sets the stage for the story of Noah and the flood, which follows. The verse describes a time when humanity was growing and multiplying on the earth. As the population increased, so did the wickedness of humankind.

The following verses (Genesis 6:2-7) go on to describe the moral decay of humanity and God’s decision to bring about a great flood to cleanse the earth of this wickedness. Noah, a righteous man, finds favor in God’s eyes and is instructed to build an ark to save his family and a pair of each kind of animal from the impending flood.

Time to reflect

Reflecting on Genesis 6:1 and the events that follow, we can consider the following points on how to apply the teachings of this verse in our personal lives:

  • Recognize the importance of righteousness. The story of Noah serves as a powerful reminder that God values righteousness. Striving to live a life that pleases God should be a priority for us.
  • Understand the consequences of wickedness. The flood serves as a symbol of God’s judgment on sin and wickedness. It is a reminder that sin has consequences, both in this life and in the life to come.
  • Seek God’s guidance and protection. Just as Noah was protected from the flood by following God’s instructions, we too can seek God’s guidance and protection in our lives by trusting and obeying Him.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the story of Noah and the reminder of the importance of righteousness. Help us to live lives that please You and to turn away from sin and wickedness. Please guide us and protect us as we navigate the challenges of this world. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.

Strengthening Faith

In light of Genesis 6:1, let us take these steps to deepen our faith and live a life that is pleasing to God:

  1. Reflect on your own life and identify areas where you can grow in righteousness. Pray for God’s guidance and strength to make positive changes.
  2. Be mindful of the consequences of sin and strive to live a life that is free from wickedness.
  3. Seek God’s guidance and protection in your life by spending time in prayer and reading His Word.
