Today’s Devotional
In Matthew 5:43, Jesus addresses a common misconception of His time – the idea that love should be selective, reserved only for those who are like us or those who treat us well. This verse challenges us to expand our understanding of love, to embrace a love that transcends personal preferences and prejudices. It’s a radical call to love not only our neighbors but also our enemies. This kind of love is not based on feelings or favoritism; it’s a deliberate choice, an act of will to seek the good of others, regardless of their actions towards us.
This teaching of Jesus invites us to examine our attitudes towards those we consider ‘other’ or ‘enemy.’ Are there people or groups we find difficult to love? Jesus’ command to love our enemies is transformative, both for the giver and the receiver of love. It’s a powerful testament to the nature of God’s love – unconditional, all-encompassing, and all-forgiving. By practicing this kind of love, we not only align ourselves with God’s will, but we also become instruments of peace and reconciliation in a divided world.

Prayer Of The Day
Heavenly Father, in a world where division and animosity are so prevalent, Your call to love our enemies is both challenging and necessary. Help us, O Lord, to understand the depth and breadth of Your love, which includes even those we find hard to love. Give us the strength and courage to extend Your love to everyone we encounter, breaking down barriers of hostility and misunderstanding. Teach us to see others through Your eyes, recognizing their value and worth as Your creations. May our actions reflect the radical love of Jesus, who loved unconditionally and sacrificially. Guide us in being agents of reconciliation, bringing Your light into areas of darkness and division. In practicing this all-encompassing love, may we be true disciples of Christ, showing the world a better way. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
