Today’s Devotional

Matthew 28:16 marks the beginning of the Great Commission, where Jesus gives His final instructions to His disciples before ascending into heaven. The eleven disciples, now without Judas Iscariot, journey to the mountain in Galilee as Jesus had instructed. This verse sets the stage for Jesus’ call to make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching them to obey His commandments.

The disciples’ obedience in going to the mountain demonstrates their trust in Jesus and their commitment to following His instructions. Their example serves as a reminder for us to be attentive to God’s guidance in our lives and to act in obedience, even when we may not fully understand the reason behind His instructions.

As followers of Christ, we are also called to participate in the Great Commission. Jesus’ command to make disciples of all nations extends to each of us, inviting us to share the Good News of His salvation with others, both near and far.

Time to reflect

In light of Matthew 28:16, we should:

  • Be attentive to God’s guidance in our lives and act in obedience to His instructions.
  • Trust in Jesus and follow His example, even when we may not fully understand His reasons.
  • Recognize our role in the Great Commission, sharing the Good News with others.
  • Seek opportunities to make disciples, baptizing and teaching them to obey Jesus’ commandments.
  • Encourage fellow believers to participate in the Great Commission, supporting and praying for one another.

Prayer Of The Day

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your final instructions in the Great Commission. Help us to be attentive to Your guidance and to act in obedience to Your instructions. Strengthen our trust in You, and remind us of our role in sharing the Good News with others. Equip us to make disciples, baptizing and teaching them to follow Your commandments. Empower us to encourage and support our fellow believers in their participation in the Great Commission. In Your name, we pray. Amen.

Strengthening Faith

To apply the insights from Matthew 28:16, we can:

  • Pray for opportunities to share the Good News with others and make disciples.
  • Study Scripture and learn more about Jesus’ teachings to effectively share them with others.
  • Develop relationships with non-believers and be a living example of Christ’s love and grace.
  • Support and pray for missionaries and ministries engaged in the Great Commission.
  • Encourage and equip fellow believers to participate in the Great Commission, sharing resources and experiences.

Today Wisdom

As we follow the example of the disciples in Matthew 28:16, let us be attentive to God’s guidance, act in obedience to His instructions, and participate in the Great Commission. By sharing the Good News with others and making disciples, we can impact lives for Christ and help expand His kingdom throughout the world.
